Ways to help your child
There are many ways that you can help your child succeed in school.  Here are the ten most important things that you can do:

1.  Read aloud to your child, even after your child can read to him or herself.

2. Establish a school night routine.  Children are more likely to do well at school if their schedule at home is predictable, manageable, and allows for the proper amount of sleep.

3.  Talk to your child about his or her learning experiences at school.

4.  Provide varied learning opportunities for your child at home and within the community.

5. Become involved in your child's education by attending school functions, open houses, and parent teacher conferences.   If your schedule permits, volunteering is also an excellent way to be involved!

6. Limit "screen time" - time in front of the television and non-educational electronic games.

7. Closely monitor the diet of your child to make sure he or she is getting the required vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that are needed to help your child grow and maintain their high level of energy.  I know this is not easy considering our busy schedules and the habits of picky eaters!

8.  Help your child make connections between math and the real world.

9.  Make sure that your child gets to school on time.  If your child is late, he or she might miss a fun morning activity or might not feel connected to the group that day because of missed opportunities to socialize in the morning.

10.  Help your child develop a positive view of school.  School is a place not only to learn, but a place where they can reach their full potential and have lots of fun!
