In social studies, Kindergarten students develop an awareness of themselves by exploring various concepts and then by connecting those concepts to their own lives. The four major strands of social studies explored include civics and government, history, geography, and economics.
The concepts that will be presented throughout the year include:
1. Good citizenship
2. Personal experiences - past and present
3. Physical environment
4. Products and resources
Topics or units will include classroom rules and responsibilities, an exploration of ourselves, friendship, Pilgrims, Native Americans, Martin Luther King Jr., South Portland, Maine, farm products, the grocery store, and careers.
